Inspired by the teams that have to chase the breakaway group of a tour stage, this one is about the work done on the climb to eat in to that breakway advantage.
Climbing "tempo" is about keeping the team together, yet setting a formidable pace to keep eating into a break's advantage yet not tire the team out so much that the team doesn't have the finishing kick to win the stage.
conceptual work ...
In my view the point of a sketchbook is freedom. It's frankly to unload all those ideas as quickly as possible onto a page. Get through it as quickly as possible! Well in this case, I concepted a piece that honored the team and the process of winning a race or at least laying down watts on a climb.
Conceptually, I have a couple sketches where I wondered about placement in a poster image. (Far left is a sketch of a breakaway from the Tour Down Under 2025, so not specifically relevant).
I think about cycling more than I should -- it doesn't pay me anything! But the machinations of a grand tour stage get the creative juices flowing, so go with it.
